Dedes Family and The Sydney Rowing Club

Stavros and Helen Dedes first took on the catering at the Sydney Rowing Club in 1973. Stavros was employed by the prior caterer when one day the caterer walked out, the then Secretary Manager of the Club asked Stavros if he could cook – to which he replied “of course I can cook”. He called his wife Helen and they officially started business. Their son Con was four when his parents started and virtually grew up in and around the Club. Stavros and Helen made a great success of the catering and became part of the social fabric of the Club until 1982 when they moved to another venue. Con and Kerries Dedes brought the Dedes Family back to the Club in 1996, and have been the caterers ever since. Whilst going on to open several other hospitality ventures in and around Sydney, Dedes Waterfront Group maintains its life-long commitment to the Sydney Rowing Club.

Getting Here

Watergrill is situated in the Sydney Rowing Club at the end of Great North Road, Abbotsford.
There is ample parking available in the club car park.

Alternatively, catch a Sydney Ferry or Rivercat to Abbotsford Wharf which is no more than a minute walk from our front door. The 504 and 438X bus routes are also a short walk away.
